Taylor's bar was one of the most widely known pubs in Galway City. Located on dominic street beside the Roisin Dubh it could trace it's history back to the 1800's. Owned and operated by the Taylor family from 1949 to 1989, it survived until 2004 when it was taken over and turned into a lap dancing bar much to the fury of local residents. Protests, petitions and pleas to the council were to no avail resulting in Taylor's disappearing from the Galway Pub scene. ![]() The Man who Pulled 1 Million Pints Taylor's was well known as a melting pot of Galway life with people from all parts of society mixing elbow to elbow in its tight confines. Well known as a traditional music venue, Taylor's was reknowned for its spontaneous sessions and from the 1990's for music sessions in its beer garden out the back. Like many pubs with such a long history part of the pub had once been a grocery shop and this survived right up until 1989 when the last of the Taylor family- Mick left the business. The beer garden out the back had also been used to stable horses before the advent of the car. ![]() The Locals Taylor's also had a somewhat unusual claim to fame when its head barman, Seamus Mulligan was given an award by Guinness for pulling over 1 million pints of Guinness in his bar career. Although now a Gentlemans Club much of the interior survives although it has been painted over and may one day be brought back to life as a Pub again. |
