Traditional Music Wednesday and Sunday nights
Cookes Thatch Bar sits in the heart of one of the City’s oldest residential areas. There has been a pub operating here since the 1700’s and it is one of only two remaining thatch pubs in the City today. Although the Cooke family no longer own the business it still remains very much a locals bar. It has a loyal local following every night of the week. Cookes is divided into two separate sections, a lounge and a bar with a quaint snug dividing the two. The lounge contains a jukebox and dart boards and is regular host to table quizzes for various local fundraising.
They have a very spacious smoking area at the back of the pub.
Trad Music at Cookes
The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed with plenty of chat between all customers. Cookes is also reknowned for the quality of the Guinness so it's a great place to down a pint of the "black stuff".
They have Irish traditional music sessions underneath the Thatch roof on Wednesdays and Sundays. Live music is also played here on Fridays and Saturdays. The Wednesday night session in particular is a chance to catch great music in a relaxed setting without the tinned sardine effect of many City centre pubs.
Well worth a visit.
